Direct Action Texas Statement on State of the State Address

Governor Greg Abbott today set out his emergency priorities for the 2019 legislative session. While a few of his priority issues are commendable, the notable absence of election integrity from his speech was a missed opportunity for Abbott to lead.

Shock at Abbott’s balk was expressed across the board. Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith tweeted, “Wasn’t expecting this –> Unless I missed it, the words “voter” and “fraud” did not appear in @GovAbbott’s speech.”

Democrat members of the Texas House in response to the STOS took the opportunity to pound Abbott on election integrity, specifically attacking list maintaince activities the Secretary of State is currently performing. Avoiding the topic appears to have had no effect in muting push back.

Alert: Democrats Signal More Pressure on Elections

This evening failed Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams will deliver a rebuttal to the President Trump’s State of the Union address.

Abrams lost her bid to become governor of Georgia to former Secretary of State Brian Kemp on November 6, 2018. Her run was used to attack routine voter roll upkeek in messaging that was not confined to Georgia but projected nationally.

Since being elected, President Trump has made it a point to call out voter fraud, a practice that many Democrats dismiss out of hand despite prosecutions and convictions. In Texas, convictions are on the rise.

Conservatives to Abbott: Make Election Integrity a Priority

On Friday, conservative leaders called on Governor Greg Abbott to make election integrity an emergency item this legislative session.

Abbott will deliver his State of the State address on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. While Abbott is expected to continue his push for property tax relief and reforming school finance, it’s unclear if any other items will be added to the call.

Governor Abbott Unphased by Liberal Media

Yesterday, during a press conference on property tax reform, Governor Greg Abbott was pestered by the media on the Secretary of State’s recent list maintenance activity.

Last week the SoS announced it was working with counties to identify potential non-citizen voters on Texas voter rolls.

Abbott quickly addressed the reporter’s line of questioning and continued the press conference. This is the correct approach.

Many in the left-wing aligned Texas media are working overtime to stop a clean up of Texas voter rolls. Much reporting lacks context, competing viewpoints or compelling content.

It’s not really reporting, it’s advocacy.
